If you don't already know, we are chicken people. We live in one of the smallest houses in the Gundo but have an ok backyard so we decided to dedicate an area of it to the newest trend - backyard chickens! Our chickens aren't just functional (but don't get me wrong, 2-3 eggs a day is fabulous!) but they are truly our pets. We really do love them and think they have funny personalities. The picture is of Teensy, our bantam weird looking chicken in our Christmas tree. It's the Hapke version of a partridge in a pear tree!
hmmm - I keep trying to add posts but its not working so well. I've basically decided/figured out that this blog is going to have to be more my personal thing and less my PTA thing. SO - I will post info when I have it and IF it is ok to post, but I think I will really just post all the random fun El Segundo things I know about!
OKEY DOKEY?!?

Too funny!
The countdown begins!! Only 8 days left until school starts!! Now don't get me wrong - I personally do not want school to start next week. Condsidering the high in weather this summer was maybe 74 degrees at the most I totally feel gipped on this summer! My plan when school let out was to not do too many camps and to just have fun at the beach at local pools. Yeah - not so much!! I think we saw every movie that came out on opening day and lived at the indoor pool, the Plunge. LAME!! I keep thinking we will have have an "Indian Summer" but seriously it was 70 at our house with a nippy breeze today. Oh well.... Maybe it will heat up and we can have study/homework fun at the beach after school this month??

what a week!

Well who knew that by being president I would have to get so involved with the union/school board negotiations? This week was very stressful for all involved and I hope no one felt slighted by anything that was said or done. I am glad to say that a tentative agreement was signed in the wee hours of the morning Tuesday so that is wonderful! This was such a learning experience for me. I went into my first council exec board meeting not knowing much of anything and a week later feel very educated. Thankfully there are some great leaders in this town of ours who don't mind taking some time to fill me in! Looks like this position is going to be more than I thought it would be - and that is not a bad thing!

Last Friday after school we had a GREAT teacher/new PTA board meeting at Kari's house. I don't know if it was the margheritas or what but I love that the line of communication was opened and we as parents have a better understanding of what the teachers need. Who knew that our computer lab was bogged down with tech issues? And how fortunate are we that so many parents in town can help with that problem? So many great ideas were exchanged. I truly hope we can keep this line of communciation open and really work together as the Parent Teacher Association we are supposed to be. I have very high hopes people!!

Cal State PTA Convention Post

it's been about 2 weeks since the convention - and again I didn't want to start talking about being the pres until I "technically" was but this is getting kind of silly. So I spent 2 full days in workshops that were geared towards being the new president - one saying I was a "precious jewel" (I milked that one a bit). As irrelevant as it would sound to the non-PTA/volunteer person, I feel like it was such an informational weekend! I left with a fired up feeling for all PTA stuff - crazy I know - but it was inspirational! Great weekend! AND THEN... I had our council PTA installation meeting tonight and all the talk about our site and what a big job, etc.... has kind of freaked me out a bit! I feel like my friends (that coincidentally are on the board) would laugh over my apprehension SO why am I nervous? Hmmm... Everything will be great! This is going to be fun! RIGHT?!?!
